| Marshal | A volunteer member of the club with a 1st or 2nd category handicap, who ensures that all participants in a competition respect the rhythm of play, the duration of play and the size of the competition. |

| Penalty | A point added to the score of a player, which does not make him doubt himself. |
| Penalty+ | A point added to the score of a player, which makes him lose time and doubt himself. |
| Penalty++ | A point added to the score of a player, which puts the player and the other players in the group into a difficult situation, makes everyone doubt and negatively affects their concentration during the competition. |
| Rhythm | Minutes of play added together and controlled after every three holes, in order to calculate the length of time of play and the duration of the competition. |
| Control charts | A set of calculations which allowscontrol of the rhythm of all the groups on all the holes during a competition. |
| A fast course | A course which does not slow down play. |
| A slow course | A course which interrupts the rhythm of play and slows it down. |
| Time | The sum of the rhythms in order to respect the length of time of play and the duration of the competition. |
| 5th category | Category used to teach course awareness to players who have passed the entrance test and are eligible to play in club competitions (usually lasting +/- 4 weeks). |
